SINGAPORE, Dec 6 (Reuters) - Gold edged down on Monday
after rising nearly 2 percent the previous session to above
$1,400 an ounce, but a struggling U.S. dollar could still spur
buying from investors.
FUNDAMENTALS
* Spot gold fell $3.31 an ounce to $1,411.04 by
0033 GMT after rising as high as $1,415.36 on Friday as the
dollar tumbled following disappointing jobs data.
* U.S. gold futures for February rose $6.3 an ounce
to at $1,412.5 an ounce.
* The world's largest gold-backed exchange-traded fund,
SPDR Gold Trust , said its holdings slipped to 1,298.030
tonnes by Dec 3 from 1,298.447 on Dec 2. The holdings hit a
record at 1,320.436 tonnes on June 29.
* Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke was reported in an
interview with CBS television as not ruling out further bond
purchases beyond the $600 billion already announced, helping
take the dollar to its lowest in three weeks against the yen
on Friday, and two weeks against the euro. []
MARKET NEWS
* The dollar sat at its lowest levels in two weeks on
Monday, nursing large losses from weaker than expected
employment data and renewed focus on U.S. quantitative easing.
* Japan's Nikkei was flat on Monday, below a six-month
high hit last week, as concerns persist over the speed of a
global recovery after worse-than-expected U.S.jobs data sent
the dollar lower against the yen.
* U.S. crude futures rose on Monday, extending a rally
into the fourth straight session as the dollar weakened
further, nursing large losses from weaker than expected jobs
data and renewed focus on U.S. quantitative easing.
