SINGAPORE, Nov 29 (Reuters) - Gold fell on Monday as a
firmer U.S. dollar dented the metal's appeal as an alternative
investment, with a weaker euro also putting additional pressure.
FUNDAMENTALS
* Spot gold eased $6.53 to $1,355.20 an
ounce by 0053 GMT, extending a 1 percent drop on Friday.
Bullion was below a lifetime high around $1,424 struck in
early November.
* U.S. gold futures fell $9 to $1,353.4 an ounce.
* The dollar briefly hit a two-month high against the yen
on Monday, extending a rise from Friday as an early bounce in
the euro following news of a rescue package for Ireland faded
and gave the greenback a lift.
* The world's largest silver-backed exchange-traded fund,
iShares Silver Trust , said its holdings slipped to
10,711.23 tonnes by Nov. 26 from an all-time high of
10,893.68 tonnes by Nov 23. []
MARKET NEWS
* Japan's Nikkei share average edged up 0.5 percent on
Monday after the dollar hit a fresh two-month high against the
yen, lending support to shares of exporters.
* Oil rose to $84 on Monday after the European Union
approved a rescue for Ireland and outlined a permanent system
to resolve the euro zone's debt crisis, instilling some
confidence that energy demand growth will remain resilient
next year.
