SINGAPORE, Dec 9 (Reuters) - Spot gold edged higher on
Thursday, after sliding more than one percent in the previous
session, as a dollar rally in paused in early Asian trade.
FUNDAMENTALS
* Spot gold edged up 0.3 percent to $1,385.15 an
ounce by 0036 GMT, after falling to a one-week low of
$1,371.45 in the previous session.
* U.S. gold futures gained 0.2 percent to $1,385.3.
* U.S. Treasury bond prices sank for the second day on
Wednesday, driving yields to a six-month high after an
agreement to extend tax cuts fed fears of inflation and a
swelling deficit. []
* The U.S. dollar took a bit of a breather early in Asia
on Thursday but stayed well supported thanks to higher
Treasury bond yields.
* Holdings in the SPDR Gold Trust , the world's
largest gold-backed exchange-traded fund, lost 2.43 tonnes to
1,295.296 tonnes by Dec 8.
* South Africa's central bank held 4 million ounces of
gold by the end of November worth $5.5 billion rand, the
bank's deputy governor Daniel Mminele said on Wednesday.
