WARSAW, Sept 17 (Reuters) - Here are news stories, press
reports and events to watch which may affect Central/Eastern
Europe's financial markets on Wednesday.
VIENNA INSURANCE
Austria's Vienna Insurance Group <VIGR.VI> has finalised a
deal to buy the insurance unit of Romania's largest bank BCR,
owned by Erste Bank <ERST.VI>, for 224 million euros ($317.9
million), daily Ziarul Financiar reports.
DISTRIGAZ SUD
Romanian gas distributor Distrigaz Sud, owned by Gaz de
France <GAZ.PA>, plans to invest 300 million lei ($116.8
million) annually in the next five years to modernise and expand
its network, daily Business Standard reports.
PETROLINVEST
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and
hedge fund Blue Oak signed a preliminary deal to buy as much as
$250 million in new shares of Petrolinvest, the Polish oil
exploration group says late on Tuesday. []
NETIA
Poland's No. 2 telecoms group Netia <NTIA.WA> sees
double-digit revenue growth in 2009 as it consolidates a former
Polish unit of Sweden's Tele2 <TEL2b.ST> and eyes other Internet
providers, its chief tells Reuters. []
CZECH BANKS
Profits at some Czech banks may be hit by exposure to the
collapsed Lehman Brothers <LEH.N> but in most cases there should
be no impact, a deputy governor of the Czech central bank says.

CEZ
Czech power group CEZ <> bought a 25 percent plus
one share stake in Polish power station Skawina for 92.6 million
zlotys ($38.8 million). []
EUROPEAN MARKETS
European stocks were seen rising on Wednesday, in a
tentative recovery after sinking to 3-year lows in the previous
session, as embattled insurer AIG <AIG.N> got an emergency $85
billion rescue package from the U.S. Federal Reserve.

WALL STREET
U.S. stocks rebounded on Tuesday, clawing back a day after
their biggest drop in seven years on growing optimism that U.S.
authorities may finance a rescue of insurer American
International Group <AIG.N>.
Hopes for a rescue grew after a source briefed on the matter
told Reuters several hours after the market close that the
Federal Reserve was negotiating roughly $85 billion in financing
to keep AIG from collapsing.
