                                 THE CROWN: Analysts expect the Czech central bank to use a
verbal intervention against the crown which is close to this
year's record high against the euro. When it was around this
level a month ago, Governor Zdenek Tuma warned the bank would
consider intervening on the foreign exchange market, knocking
down the exchange rate.

                                 COMMISSIONER: The present Czech EU commissioner Vladimir
Spidla received the strongest support from ministers in a vote
on Monday but failed to win a majority support needed to win the
post, the daily reports citing an unnamed source. Eight
ministers raised hand for Spidla while nine votes are needed for
a majority backing. Six ministers supported former cabinet
minister Alexandr Vondra.
