TOKYO, April 24 (Reuters) - Gold edged up to around $905 on Friday, extending gains after rallying to a three-week high the previous day, while holdings for the world's biggest gold-backed exchange-traded fund dipped further away from a record high.
FUNDAMENTALS
* Gold <XAU=> was at $905.50 per ounce at 0018 GMT, up 0.4 percent from New York's notional close of $902.0
* The world's largest gold-backed exchange-traded fund, the SPDR Gold Trust <GLD>, said holdings fell to 1,104.45 tonnes as of April 23, down 1.53 tonnes or 0.1 percent from the previous day. [

* Japan's Nikkei stock average fell 0.7 percent on Friday. [
]* The euro rallied broadly on Thursday as encouraging news about the European economy and banking system sparked hope that the 16-country euro zone may be emerging from the depths of recession. [
